Two Men In Denmark Die
After Receiving H1N1 Vaccine

Two men have recently died in Denmark shortly after receiving the H1N1 swine flu vaccine.

"There is no reason to panic or worry" said Kare Mølbak, chief physician at Statens Serum Institute.

"This is not a sign that the vaccine does not work," said Mølbak. "There are some at risk who are vaccinated and may die of swine flu a few days before the vaccine works. We have a coincidence of two particularly vulnerable people," added Mølbak.

One man was in his early 60's and died in at Hvidovre Hospital. The second was in their 30's and died November 12th at his home in Copenhagen.

Kari Mølbak stresses that it is a coincidence of unfortunate circumstances.

"But it can so happen that we see a repetition of a person in a risk dying before the vaccine will work," says Dr. Mølbak.

He adds that the Danes with symptoms of influenza are not vaccinated, but the border is not completely clear.

"People with high fever are not vaccinated, but you can do it if the individual has suffered a sore throat or a nose that runs," said Kari Mølbak.
