What Are The Effects On Appearance When One Identical Twin Smokes And The Other Doesn't

Although identical twins are born with "nearly identical" DNA, that DNA changes over their life span. It can change due to the foods they eat, environmental toxicity and the chemicals they're exposed to in their lifetime. Identical twins are also excellent subjects for study because they allow us to observe the effects of toxicity on the human body on two different bodies with the same genetic make-up. So if only one twin has a prolonged exposure to something like cigarettes, and the other one doesn't, we can visually assess some very interesting physical changes taking place. These pictures tell that story.

According to a study led by the University of Colorado at Boulder, genetics play a significant role in if and how smokers quit.

Emotions play a big part of why smokers keep smoking. The tendency to light up when feelings of anger, joy and sadness appear is the reason why people who may be described as "emotional" have a harder time quitting. They say smokers who want to quit would benefit greatly from cessation programs that deal with the emotions of smoking.

Some say that anger is visible in the faces of many smokers, perhaps even in the twins presented below. Among other facial features that identify smokers are aging skin, bags under the eyes and more folds and ridges around the lips. Can you guess which of this twins is a smoker?

Is it the twin on the left or on the right?

Actually, both of these brothers are smokers. However, the brother on the right has smoked for 14 years longer than his brother, which is why he appears much older.

Which twin is the smoker?

Both twins are actually smokers, but the twin on the left has been smoking 17 years longer than her identical twin. You can see that the twin who has been smoking longer has larger bags under her eyes and more lines around her lips.

Only one of these women is a smoker?
Did you guess the twin on the right? Her lips are the biggest giveaway, but also note that her cheeks are not as firm and there are more pronounced bags under her eyes.

Can you guess right?

Did you guess the twin on the right? She's smoked for 16 years of her life and spendt considerable time in the sun which can age the skin, whereas her twin looks at least 10 years younger since she never picked up smoking.

Which one is the smoker?

If you guessed the twin on the left, you'd be right. She has smoked half a pack of cigarettes a day for the past 14 years, while her twin has never smoked. Her cigarette habit has given her baggy eyes and has made her look much older than her identical twin at 52 years old.

Is it the twin on the left or on the right?

If you guessed the woman on the right, you would be correct. Not only does she have more wrinkles on her face, but her lips aren't as plump either. Would you have guessed they were identical twins?

Who do you think the smoker is?

The smoker on the left looks so much older than her twin. The difference here is astounding.
