A new directory focused on chronic
kidney disease offers patients, doctors and caregivers quick
access to more than 60 Web sites, including those operated
by non-profit, educational and patient advocacy organizations.
The directory, www.KidneyResource.com,
also includes a "doctor finder" and an interactive Anemia
Awareness Center. This offers information about anemia related
to chronic kidney disease.
The directory was developed
by the pharmaceutical company Ortho Biotech in partnership
with patient and physician groups.
Experts believe many Americans
may have undetected chronic kidney disease. The condition
is progressive, with the kidneys failing to function effectively.
People with diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history
of kidney disease, and those over age 65 are at increased
risk for chronic kidney disease.
"KidneyResource.com is the
first Web-based directory to make the process of locating
accurate information about chronic kidney disease as easy
as possible," Kris Robinson, executive director of the American
Association of Kidney Patients, said in a prepared statement.
"It was developed based on
research showing how people tend to intuitively search for
information on this type of site. As a result, visitors will
find it logical and easy to use," Robinson said.
