British Women Not Getting
Enough Exercise--Poll

LONDON (Reuters) - British women could be jeopardizing their health because they are not getting enough exercise, a cancer charity said on Tuesday.

Most women in Britain take less than 30 minutes of exercise three times a week and one in four do no exercise at all, according to a poll by Cancer Research UK.

"These statistics are deeply concerning as regular exercise is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is very worrying that such a large proportion of British women take less than the recommended amount of exercise," Dr. Lesley Walker, the charity's director of cancer information, said in a statement.

Studies show that regular exercise can reduce the risk of people developing a range of cancers and help sufferers recover.

According to the survey of 1,142 women across Britain, almost a fifth did not exercise because they lack motivation. Nearly 40% said they did not have the time.

The charity released the results ahead of its Race for Life, a series of women-only races to raise funds for cancer research.

"It is essential this problem is addressed and that women are encouraged to increase the amount of regular exercise they take," Walker added.
