Using
Yoga to Stretch the
Bonds of Rheumatoid Arthritis
(HealthScoutNews) -- If you have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), it's
not a stretch to say you might be interested in a new online yoga
guide designed specifically for you.
The guide was developed by the American Yoga Association and the
Arthritis Foundation. You can access it at
Remain Active with RA.
Yoga may help people with arthritis deal with pain and stiffness,
improve their range of motion and increase strength for daily
activities.
This guide consists of a 35-minute yoga routine that includes
range-of-motion, muscle strengthening, and endurance exercises
-- the three major forms of exercise prescribed for people with
RA. The guide also has warm-up exercises, along with relaxation,
breathing and meditation techniques.
Each exercise description includes detailed photographs and
instructions on the proper way to perform each movement.
RA affects about 2 million Americans, 75 percent of them women.
