Fifteen per cent of seniors admitted to hospital are suffering drug side effects.

Judy Steed Special to the Star

They are the drugged-out generation, and they're not who you think they are.
They're 80. And 85 and 90 and 95 – overmedicated seniors clogging emergency departments, blocking hospital beds and sicker than they have any reason to be.
The Number 1 drug users in North America, outside of patients in long-term care facilities, are women over the age of 65. Twelve per cent are on 10 or more meds, sometimes up to 20 or more drugs; 23 per cent take at least five drugs. In long-term care, seniors are on six to eight medications, on average. Fifteen per cent of seniors admitted to hospital are suffering drug side effects. It's not uncommon to find seniors dizzy and dotty from being prescribed so many drugs.
"You'd fall down, too, if you were on so many drugs," says Dr. William Dalziel, a prominent Ottawa geriatrician.
Typically, overmedicated seniors have been seen by numerous specialists who have prescribed various medications to treat a host of chronic ailments – high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease, cancer – but there hasn't been any oversight by a geriatrician skilled in looking at the big picture and assessing contra-indications and side effects. Ask any doctor with expertise in seniors what their top health concerns are and they all cite overmedication.
Dr. Mark Nowacynski, an exceedingly rare family doctor who does home visits on a full-time basis, shakes his head. "So many old people are prescribed so many drugs, they don't know what they're for and they often don't take them properly," he says.
Nowacynski recalls taking care of an old man who was seeing six specialists.
"He was very anxious and confused; the specialists' advice often conflicted. I was astounded at how many meds he was on, more than 20. He wasn't taking them as prescribed and he was suffering from various side effects and interactions that weren't being monitored."
Over time, Nowacynski – or Dr. Mark, as his patients call him – was able to wean his patient down to fewer than 10 drugs.
One of the reasons overmedication is such a serious issue, apart from the biological aspects, is that seniors become vulnerable to serious falls when they're excessively drugged, and serious falls can lead to a downward spiral of hospitalization, extreme fear of going out, isolation and death. As well, many seniors have trouble sleeping; instead of being encouraged to tire themselves out with exercise and activities, they may become habituated to sleeping pills that leave them groggy during the day.
Another problem, says Dr. Paula Rochon, a Baycrest geriatrician, is that doses for older people should often be much lower than for younger people. She notes that Valium is long acting and very sedating and shouldn't be prescribed at all to seniors.
Not only does overmedication cost the health-care system millions of dollars annually in unnecessary, expensive prescriptions but also the entire system slows down – and wait times for other patients lengthen – as emergency departments and hospitals struggle to diagnose drug-related problems.
Doctors and nurses trained in the ailments of old age and alert to the problem of overmedication can resolve many of these issues quite quickly, but most doctors haven't had any significant geriatric training. Stories are legion about elders blocking emergency rooms and being admitted to hospital, with doctors thinking the old people are having heart attacks and ordering expensive tests when the problem is simply overmedication.
In 1995, the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that doctors who wrote the most prescriptions also had the highest death rates among their patients.
"This study found that some doctors, in trying to maximize the number of patients they could process per day, did not take the time necessary to find out what was wrong with these patients," writes David Foot in his bestseller Boom, Bust, Echo. "That kind of medical practice results in overmedicated and inappropriately medicated patients."
According to Dr. Jerry Gurwitz, chief of geriatric medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School: "Any new symptom in an older person should be considered a drug side effect until proven otherwise."
At Baycrest, Toronto's health sciences centre focused on geriatric care, Rochon has spent years working with the facility's doctors, researchers and residents in long-term care to find solutions to overmedication.
"When you're dealing with complex conditions (in seniors) and all these drugs, how do doctors make the right choices?" she asks. "It gets complicated for everybody."
Thanks to her efforts, Baycrest has developed software for a computerized physician order entry system. Instead of scrawling, often illegibly, on a prescription pad, doctors sign in to a database and get full access to residents' medical histories and comprehensive pharmacological information, before they order prescriptions.
Baycrest's wireless networks were upgraded and the centre became the first long-term care facility in Canada, and one of the first in North America, to do its drug prescribing electronically.
"At a glance, you can look at the patients' history, get their age, weight, see what other meds they're on, see their medication history, allergies, blood work, other consults," Rochon says. "Everything you need is at your finger tips."
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was so impressed that it funded a landmark study to determine Baycrest's effectiveness in reducing adverse drug events in long-term care. The U of M's Gurwitz, who was a principal investigator, stated that Baycrest was "ahead of the curve in adopting health information technology" and "there are few places like Baycrest in all of North America in which to carry out such a study."
Prescribing is now much improved at Baycrest, Rochon says, and "doctors are making better decisions because they've got better information."
Most Toronto hospitals have followed Baycrest's lead and use computerized physician order systems.
The Ontario government has responded to the issue with the MedsCheck program (, in which pharmacists are paid to assess seniors' medications and detect problems. People who have an OHIP card and are taking three or more prescription drugs for a chronic condition are eligible. On presenting their card, they receive a one-on-one, private consultation for up to 30 minutes with a pharmacist, who will make sure they are taking their drugs properly and educate them about possible adverse drug reactions.
"Some over-the-counter medications can interfere with certain health conditions and adversely affect some prescription medications," the MedsCheck website states. Decongestants, for instance, may be taken to relieve cold symptoms, but they can have the effect of raising blood pressure. Vitamin C can reduce the efficacy of chemotherapy.
Still missing, however, is a Canada-wide policy. In 2002, Roy Romanow recommended a National Drug Agency that would include a national program for managing medications to, among other things, monitor prescriptions and adverse drug reactions among seniors.
"The evidence is that new drugs come on the market every few days and in Canada there is no comprehensive process to address their safety, quality and cost-effectiveness," Romanow says. "Health Canada says it does this, but it doesn't, not like the Food and Drug Administration in the United States."
Romanow says a national program would make a huge difference in the daily lives of seniors, the major consumers of drugs in Canada.
Six years since Romanow's prescription, it has yet to be filled.

Son of one son-of-a-bitch, grandson of the granddaddy of all sons-of-bitches, acts
in the tradition of the Hall of Fame of sons-of-bitches... link

By Ryan G. Murphy, RTDNA Digital Media Editor

I was very disappointed to wake up this morning and see a video of Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) blasting both FOX and MSNBC during a Cable & Broadcast subcommittee hearing on Wednesday with what appeared to be a request for government intervention if the network's content is not cleaned up.

Here's part of Rockefeller's statement: "There's a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: 'Out. Off. End. Goodbye.' It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future."

Rockefeller's statement is concerning for a number of reasons but the most striking to me is the portion that reads: "It would be a big favor to political discourse...and to the American people."

As I'm reading this, Rockefeller is saying that the United States electorate will be better informed if we ELIMINATE two major media voices - that getting rid of them would essentially be addition by subtraction.

Put your own politics on FOX and MSNBC aside for a second and let's just agree that they can both sometimes present potentially polarizing views.

What Rockefeller is suggesting with his statement is that the views presented on FOX and MSNBC have no place in the news consumers' world and, because they are not "quality news," the government should intervene. Simply put, that's absolute censorship and undermines having a diverse flow of information in the market. It also destroys market-based competition among the networks. This is America, right?

Rockefeller failed to point out that the FCC does not have the authority to regulate either FOX or MSNBC. The channels are on cable - not broadcast airwaves. It's frustrating to see that he would even THINK to have the government step in because of content.

As the New York Times reported, the comments about FOX News and MSNBC were not in Mr. Rockefeller’s prepared remarks. In those prepared remarks, he also said:

"When it comes to developing content, our entertainment machine is too often in a race to the bottom. Even worse, our news media has all but surrendered to the forces of entertainment. Instead of a watchdog that is a check on the excesses of government and business, we have the endless barking of a 24-hour news cycle. We have journalism that is always ravenous for the next rumor, but insufficiently hungry for the facts that can nourish our democracy. As citizens, we are paying a price."

Among the digs in the above statement, Rockefeller is making a valid, and often discussed point among my colleagues - a 24-hour news cycle brings with it a vast set of challenges that require careful planning and extreme adaptability. It appears that during yesterday's hearing Rockefeller would have done much better if just stuck to his script.

Suggesting censorship is not only the easy way out but it also undermines the point you were trying to make, senator. Healthy political discourse requires diversity of opinion, not no opinion at all. If there's something on television you don't like, please just change the channel.

C. McKone,
"Office of the Leader" (what are you, a secretary? I did not write to YOU)

This response is beyond stupid. Apparently you people are incapable of translating English into rational thought.

Please have the leader answer me himself. I have already sent this question halfway around the world on many contact lists and posted it in several conspicuous locations, and I don't think his shaky reputation will be well-served by this sort of evasion.

I asked a question on behalf of many Canadians. I expect an ANSWER, not a regurgitation of talking points from an office worker.

How far do I need to take this to get an answer to the question? WHEN IS IGNATIEFF GOING TO HAVE "ANOTHER LOOK" at the SOVEREIGNTY ISSUES in BILL C-36 AS HE STATED HE WOULD, PUBLICLY, ON NOVEMBER 13th IN VICTORIA????

bcc'd AGAIN to my entire list.

Subject: Bill C-36, the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act

Dear Sir/Madame:

On behalf of Michael Ignatieff I would like to acknowledge receipt of your recent email regarding Bill C-36, the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

The Liberal Party is committed to improving the safety and health of Canadians. The drive for stronger consumer safety legislation began with the work of the previous Liberal government, and we have been unwavering in our work to strengthen measures which allow Canadians have access to safer consumer products.

Unfortunately previous attempts at meaningful consumer safety legislation were held up by the Conservative government, specifically the Prime Minister’s decision to shut down Parliament last winter in order to evade transparency and democratic accountability.

Since that time, the Liberal Party has been instrumental in shepherding along new product safety legislation, Bill C-36, which will protect Canadian consumers without causing harm to Canadian companies. The final version of the Bill as passed by the House of Commons contained several amendments put forward by Liberal Parliamentarians, including an important change which clarifies that disclosure of personal information by the Minister of Health is subject to provisions of the Privacy Act.

Thank you for taking the time to write to the Leader of the Opposition.

Yours sincerely,

C. McKone

Health council urges better testing of prescription drugs
Vancouver Sun
"People often think that since a drug has been approved by Health Canada, it is safe," John Abbott, CEO of the council in a statement. ...

This article makes the pharmaceutical industry look like excellent corporate citizens,
who police themselves diligently. Nothing could be farther from the truth: Big Pharma
is noted for purchasing research supporting their claims, skewing the science to get
their drugs to market. Glaxo's flu shot of 2009-2010 was a prime example. The near
total lack of testing, especially in high-risk populations like children and seniors, was
accepted whole cloth by Health Canada. Prime Minister Harper indemnified Glaxo
from lawsuits, and took responsibility for compensation, yet Canadians who suffered
adverse events were NEVER helped in any way, even though many suffered life-altering
illness, and there were several deaths, including a healthy Vancouver-area mother of SIX.
Yeah, right, "less safe".... downright dangerous is closer to the point!
Meanwhile.... try getting a natural health product to market, if you can get past the
Health Canada witch hunt!

Courageous Gulf truth journalist Deborah Dupre' was on the two-hour webcast with Rosalind Peterson and me concerning military weapons testing/geoengineering and the Gulf terracide on Saturday. She asked me to call her and we talked for another two hours. She asked me to send her several items via email, which I did, then called to follow up on Tuesday. She has not answered any of my phone calls or emails since, nor has she posted any stories since Sunday.

I am particularly concerned because she is in some personal trouble, and fellow investigative journalist Jane Burgermeister -- after insulting her and her work -- contacted her employer and attempted to have her fired from one of her two jobs last week. FYI, there was instant "carma" on Fraulein Burgermeister: someone in a black Audi came straight at her without warning as she crossed the street in Vienna on Tuesday after she did this to Deborah. Only her foward lunge saved her. After recently being shown mercy, Fraulein's attempts to run others down have apparently resulted in the same for her! One wonders if she will be wise enough to heed this warning from the universe!

If anyone has heard from Deborah, please let me know ASAP; I would at least like to know that she is safe!

This video clip does an excellent job of explaining the origins of the central bank system in Australia (the RBA) and in all countries including the central bank in the U. S. (the FED). The 'shadowy' multi-generational international banking dynasties, the most prominent of which are called the Rothschilds, who control the 'Crown' or who, in fact, are the real 'Crown' (the Bank of England) behind the facade of the Queen of England.

Of course, the 'Commonwealth' in the clip refers to the United Kingdom (UK) which is not a synonym for a monarchy, it is a monarchy. My video The Red Shield provides in depth coverage of these crime family banking syndicates, their historical backgrounds and 'religious' belief systems.

The Red Shield

The YT video you sent illustrates the criminal banking system in Australia quite well at the beginning and concludes with excerpts from Aaron Russo's classic documentary 'From Freedom to Fascism' expose.

I love great political satire and this clip is one of the best I have seen. I urge everyone to take the time to watch this one made by brilliant Aussie commentators/comedians that are conveying the truth about the illicit banking system in Australia, the States and around the world with dark humor:

Reserve bank of Australia explained

Of course, the basic theme behind the video presentation is that the central bank system is falsely justified as necessary to control the cyclic nature of economic booms and busts by adjusting 'interest rates' when in fact it does the exact opposite. The RBA and the FED (and all the other central banks in each country) actually control and cause economic cycles by adjusting monetary policy (that includes adjusting interest rates) according to the dictates of political power scams that enrich the banking insiders.

The Great Depression of the 1930's occurred over 15 years after the Federal Reserve central bank was created in 1913 in the States. If the FED was supposed to keep that kind of economic catastropy from happening, it failed miserablely. What the FED did was tighten the money supply which caused the nation's banking system to curtail lending. Commerce runs on credit. When business could not obtain credit, factories closed, unemployment rose, housing collapsed and the people were left dependent on government social programs and an eventual war to jump start the economy. The insiders sold at the top and bought at the bottom of all this.

This go round of the economic manipulation by the central banking system has a different twist. It is commonly refered to as globalism. The idea is to export jobs to cheap labor countries and import cheap labor to all economically developed countries to deliberately sabotage the higher standard of living (the middle class) in all respective economies in order to establish world wide borderless regions that will be managed by an economic, military and political world government thus eradicating the nation/states to a melting pot of populations with little cultural or ethnic identity.

All this is done under the misnomer of 'free trade'. There is nothing free about the international trading system under NAFTA. Actually it is the opposite because the developed nations economies are being forced to abandon their protectionist trade policies while the cheap labor economies maintain theirs. The U. S. is forced to drop tariffs on imports from China while China is allowed to maintain tariffs on imports from the States kind of thing. As factories trip over themselves to relocated in China from the States, car manufacturing here dries up and lays off thousand of formerly higher paid workers thus causing the housing bubble to pop all by design.

Dear Mr. Ignatieff,

Your Big Red Tent event in Victoria this past weekend offered one Mr. Jeremy Arney an opportunity to ask you something that many, many Canadians want answered.
He asked,"Why did neither you nor your party see this danger in Bill C-36 which opens the door to foreign governments controlling our Canadian regulations without parliamentary oversight?"

Indeed, sir, this is a question that could be applied in many areas, this issue of foreign controls over whole segments of our economy, and even our economy itself. It has become evident that our foreign entanglements have already removed great chunks of our sovereignty, without the foreknowledge of the people of Canada and in breach of their trust that our government will never give away what belongs to Canadians by right, most particularly their democratic right to sovereign government.

Without sovereign government, democracy ceases to exist: votes and elections are redundant. Parliament itself becomes irrelevant. This is not rocket science, it is fact, and a fact to which Mr. Arney's question directly alludes.

The Harper government, while not, in truth, the only perpetrator of this affront to Canada's ability to self-govern, has taken this giveaway of sovereignty to new heights, and openly admits to it: . Simultaneously, Mr. Harper claims to protect our sovereignty and gives it away via trade agreements that turn our laws into toilet paper.

Harper's schizophrenic rhetoric may be lost on many, but loyal Canadians such as Mr. Arney are vigilant. Would that the same could be said about all of the federal party leaders, since all four of you refused at any juncture to address that issue of foreign control over our sovereign rights to decide for ourselves, during the deliberations of C-52, C-6, and C-36.

But you were told: Oh, yes, you were told, that Canadians were not in favor of that foreign authority clause then, and you were told repeatedly. Yet Bill C-36 now sits in the Senate, the stacked Conservative Senate, and not one word about Canada's health sovereignty being placed in the hands of foreign committees passed your lips when you had the chance to trash the bill! (and it is health sovereignty, in its entirety, because it is the Ministry of Health accepting the orders, and stands as precedent. This is an interesting thing, since according to our Constitution, the provinces have control over health care: how is it that Health Canada gets to hand that control to foreign bodies? Under which mandate?) Your party health critics were all asked to consider the offending clauses; each party, in turn, has stated that they didn't see a problem with them, to the utter astonishment of those who sent letters and queries of all sorts.

Now we have experienced the passage of Bill C-36 through the Lower House, watching it being fast-tracked, with no witnesses allowed at the Standing Committee Hearings except for Safe Kids Canada, which had already promoted its open support of the bill. And at Third Reading, the bill was deemed passed, and again, members of Parliament let some of our nation's sovereignty flush down the bowl without so much as a murmur.

Never mind the ugly fact that Health Canada routinely conducts SWAT-team raids on sellers of vitamins, in an unequal application of the law (already determined by a federal court), with pistols pointed at customers and staff alike, and commits egregious acts against honest citizens, with or without benefit of Bill C-36; never mind that in one such instance a 19-year old staffer was told "do what we tell you or we will kill you", or that family pets have been threatened with death, in front of children, for barking at armed intruders, and heads ripped off children's dolls for the purpose of "searching for 'drugs'" like Vitamin B folate (Folic Acid)! This is almost surreal, in a "free" nation. It is suggestive of a medical police state, and horribly damages and repudiates the freedoms we are supposed to have in this nation!

Mr. Ignatieff, your reply to Mr. Arney consisted of the following:
"Here is a question from a Canadian who bothers to read the details and is concerned by what he reads, I thank him for that. I did not see the dangers to which you refer, sir, but if you would leave the details with my staff I will look again".

This is a pleasant, albeit disastrously late, response to the question you and your MP's and indeed all of Parliament have been asked many times in the past. Given the insouciance with which this question has been dismissed by all of you, one is forced to conclude that either our elected officials are completely senseless, or they truly do not mind that they are erasing their own relevance by handing control of this nation over to foreign entities for whom no one can vote --- or against whom one can have recourse. This of course begs the question of why, all along, with the facts and a great deal of knowledge and experience in hand, you were unable to "see the dangers".

Perhaps it is more difficult to dodge a question of that nature when the eyes of Canadians are upon you. But know this, Mr. Ignatieff, the eyes of many more Canadians than were present under your Big Red Tent are now upon you, because you have made a public commitment to look again at the language of C-36. I do not envy your position, as this would, I think, qualify as an excellent example of a rock and a hard place: either you must admit that you agree with the outsourcing of our governance, or you must admit being completely asleep at the switch while Canada's sovereignty is handed over to global controls, without the informed consent of Canadians. There is no wiggle room.

When, exactly, Sir, did you plan on taking that second look, and reporting back to Canadians what you see with your eyes open? I look eagerly forward to that day, and expect that if you are a loyal Canadian, you will see what we and Mr. Arney see, and stop it. To do less is unthinkable.

Behold the Four Horsemen of the Looming Food Apocalypse
(Opinion)by Paul Fassa, citizen journalist

It`s not enough that former Monsanto executive Michael Taylor is the Food Czar in Obama`s administration. Monsanto recently purchased Xe Intelligence Services. Xe is the new name for Blackwater, the largest private mercenary military outfit in the world. Within that same time frame, Bill Gates purchased 23 million dollars (US) of Monsanto stocks.

Let`s take a look at each of the four horsemen.

Michael Taylor

He was Monsanto`s chief attorney and lobbyist. He knows his way around the FDA and USDA since he`s influenced both agencies. Monsanto Mike was the one who pushed Monsanto`s rBGH(recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone) to help poison milking cows and consumers` milk. Then he made it illegal for non-cooperating dairy farms to display "no rBGH" on their milk cartons. He made life financially miserable for those dairy farmers who didn`t play ball.

Some suspect a Food Czar link with the current raw milk raids. After all, milk is Monsanto Mike`s familiar turf, and his chief administrative duty is food safety.

In case you`re not sure of Monsanto`s destructive nature, here`s a short list of Monsanto`s toxic products: Agent Orange, PCBs, aspartame, rBGH, and Ready Roundup. Google them.

Monsanto developed terminator seeds, forcing farmers to buy new seeds because they cannot be recycled after first harvest. Monsanto is the world`s leading GMO producer. And they sue farmers for violating patent laws when non-GMO farms` crops are inadvertently infested by neighboring GMO crops.

Monsanto is making sure they own patents on almost all other non-GMO seeds as well. Their stated goal is to own the world`s food production. Think food mafia!

Bill Gates

Under the guise of philanthropy, Gates is constantly funding vaccine development and distribution. This includes GM crops containing vaccines and mosquitoes to deliver vaccines. The targets of these developments are usually developing countries.

Vaccines have been exposed as carriers for sterilization agents in developing countries over the past two decades. Perhaps Bill Gates` comment on reducing the population by ten to fifteen percent with vaccines was not a slip of the tongue or taken out of context.

Gates is also funding the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). The Gates Foundation hired Robert Horsh in 2006 when he was a director at Monsanto! The AGRA is a front for stripping African farmers of their traditional seed use and force selling them GM seeds. This type of operation has had tragic results for poor cotton farmers in India.

Xe AKA Blackwater

Blackwater has a history of black ops and secret illegal activities. Their services are available to corporate as well as government operations. They changed their name to Xe because of their soiled reputation for exposed dirty deeds in Iraq. As a private mercenary army, Blackwater has been able to terrorize targets under secret contracts, while enabling their employers to claim deniability.

Through different shell company names, Xe has developed secret contracts with several multi-national corporations. Jeremy Scahill, the author of Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army, has recently exposed Monsanto`s relationship with Xe.

According to Scahill, Cofer Black the director of Total Intelligence, one of Blackwater`s shell companies, started pitching Monsanto in 2008. Black is former CIA director with a nasty reputation. Now Total Intelligence is part of Monsanto. That division`s purpose is to covertly infiltrate anti-GMO activists and resisting farmers. This would enable splintering those groups, or even assassinating some key individuals.

We must resist the evil synergy of this alliance. Jeffrey Smith`s anti-GMO campaign with his Institute for Responsible Technology is a starting point.

Health Canada seizes supplements from local store link

By Dan Maclennan, Courier-Islander November 12, 2010

Health Canada inspectors seized a variety of unauthorized health products from Fitness Etc. stores in Campbell River and Courtenay last month.
They say the products could pose a serious risk to health.
"Following information obtained by Health Canada regarding the sale of unauthorized health products, Health Canada Inspectors visited two retailers on Vancouver Island on October 15, and removed from sale all unauthorized products that posed a serious risk to the health of Canadians," Health Canada's Gary Holub told the Courier-Islander. "Both retailers were cooperative with Health Canada's efforts to remove these products from sale."
Health Canada said it has also been advised by the store owners that these 18 unauthorized products will no longer be sold.
Health Canada issued the public notice last Thursday, saying the labels on some of products indicate they contain ingredients that legally require the products to be sold by prescription because they are used to treat serious diseases or may have side effects that require monitoring by a health care practitioner. People who have purchased any of the listed products particularly people with heart problems, pregnant women, some cancer patients, and people with high blood pressure or diabetes should consult their healthcare practitioner if they have used any of the products and are concerned about their health. You should also read the label of all products you buy to verify that they have been assessed by Health Canada for safety, effectiveness and quality.
A number of the products pose specific health risks. Ephedrine and caffeine, when combined, may cause serious and possibly fatal adverse effects. Several health advisories have been issued by Health Canada warning Canadians not to use products containing ephedrine/ephedra, in combination with caffeine and other stimulants, for purposes of weight loss, body building or increased energy. Some of the unauthorized health products also indicate "M1T" or "DHEA" on the label. 17-Methyl-1 androstene-17b-ol-3one, also known as M1T, and dehydroepiandrosterone, also known as DHEA, are sex hormones that are regulated as controlled drugs in Canada that require a valid prescription from a practitioner to be dispensed by a pharmacist.
Since these sex hormones have potential side effects, including fetal effects if take during early pregnancy, disruption of ovulation leading to infertility in women and production of spermatozoids in men, promotion of the development of several types of cancer (including prostate, breast, endometrium), serious cardiovascular complications (stroke, heart attack, thrombophlebitis, pulmonary embolism) and liver toxicity, it is important that these drugs be prescribed and supervised by a health care professional, to ensure appropriate treatment and monitoring for side effects for each individual patient.
For more information about the products and the advisory, go to .
