Natural Health Supplements: What's In A Slogan?
Why Professional, Therapeutic Medicine?

http://lifechoicevitamins.blogspot.ca/2014/06/natural-health-supplements-whats-in.html

(Calgary, AB) For over 25 years, Life Choice has been formulating and supplying naturopath doctors and natural health stores with the purist nutraceuticals. No natural health manufacturer in Canada, the United States or Europe, can match the company's commitment to sourcing only the purest raw materials. Ingredients, that form the basis of each and every formulation.

Unlike most of it's competitors, Life Choice uses only USP Pharmaceutical grade ingredients in their formulations..Can other natural health manufacturers say the same?

The company's slogan is a very simple one. It consists of 3 words; "Professional, Therapeutic Medicine".

Why Professional?

When we speak about "professionalism" we are talking about product development.

Each formulation in the Life Choice family is under the direction and control of a highly trained, qualified, certified and knowledgeable naturopath doctor and professional chemist; skilled professionals who both understand the chemistry behind the product, and the physiology of its mechanism of action and therapeutic benefits.

Why Therapeutic?

When we refer to "therapeutic" we are talking about the healing [or a treatment] of a disease.

Each formulation in the Life Choice family is formulated to have "therapeutic' value. Why? because their formulations are designed not only prevent disease, but to treat the cause of the disease and to bring the body or mind back to a state of optimum health

Why Medicine?

When we refer to "medicine" we are talking about a substance or formulation specifically manufactured to prevent or treat a disease.

From our perspective, this term is closely related to "therapeutic". Do our formulation do what they are intended to do? Do the claims of our products match our scientifically intended results?

At Life Choice, all of our formulations undergo rigorous clinically testing, as a result, the answer to the above questions would be a resounding "Yes".

More Than Just A Sentence

For Life Choice, the slogan, "Professional, Therapeutic Medicine" is more than a sentence consisting of 3 words. It's a combination of words that means a commitment to quality, purity and high standards. It's a choice of words that means a true commitment to the individual, their family, and to their health.

Are You Serving Herbicides And Pesticides With Your Dinner?

Calgary, AB) 1996 was the year that the first Genetically Modified Product (GM) entered the marketplace. The product was maize (corn) . 18 years later, there are 8 major food crops which have been genetically modified; with the resulting raw material [of that crop] being used as an ingredient in many of the food items that consumers buy on a regular basis.

In most cases, consumers are not even aware that the product that they are purchasing contains a genetically modified ingredient.

Why Genetically Modified Crops?

The argument for the introduction of GM products was to increase the world's food supply. It was argued that if you were able to genetically modify a major crop, then that particular crop could be engineered to become resistant to droughts, insects, weeds and other potentially harmful effects, that could reduce the quantity of crop that could be cultivated that year.

One of the problems with this new reality, is that the GM crops are specifically engineered to be resistant to herbicide and pesticides. This means that any poisonous material that is sprayed around the crop to protect it from harmful weeds and insects, eventually settles into the soil, and is absorbed by the crop itself.

As a result, any food item that you are buying, that contains the GM crop, means that you are also purchasing the poisonous material that was absorbed by the GM plant. Material that eventually ends up on your families dinner plate (or as a raw material/ingredient in your natural supplement) and into their digestive system.

A Conspiracy Theory or Hysteria?

According to Dr. David Suzuki, a well respected and world renown scientist "One problem is that we don't know the unintended consequences of genetically engineered or genetically modified (GM) foods. Scientists may share consensus about issues like human-caused global warming, but they don't have the same level of certainty about the effects of genetically modified organisms on environmental and human health!"

At Life Choice We Understand!

At Life Choice we understand the dangers and uncertainties that surround GMO's and GM products. That is why all Life Choice natural supplements contain absolutely NO GMOs or GM Ingredients. When you buy a NATURAL SUPPLEMENT from Life Choice that's what you get: a product that is truly pure, natural and/or organic.

A product that is TRULY NATURAL.

Labelling

With few exceptions, companies that manufacturer natural health products and/or natural supplements are not required by law to claim whether or not the ingredients in their formulations use GM products or any other type of GMO.

For the consumer this can be very confusing. For example, when a natural health product says that it contains "Soy" how does the consumer know whether that "Soy" is organic or a GM product?

Short answer is.. they don't.

When you purchase a Life Choice natural supplement, you are guaranteed that it contains no GM ingredient or GMO.

It’s a question that’s perplexed philosophers for centuries and scientists for decades: Where does consciousness come from? We know it exists, at least in ourselves. But how it arises from chemistry and electricity in our brains is an unsolved mystery.

Neuroscientist Christof Koch, chief scientific officer at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, thinks he might know the answer. According to Koch, consciousness arises within any sufficiently complex, information-processing system. All animals, from humans on down to earthworms, are conscious; even the internet could be. That’s just the way the universe works.

“The electric charge of an electron doesn’t arise out of more elemental properties. It simply has a charge,” says Koch. “Likewise, I argue that we live in a universe of space, time, mass, energy, and consciousness arising out of complex systems.”

What Koch proposes is a scientifically refined version of an ancient philosophical doctrine called panpsychism — and, coming from someone else, it might sound more like spirituality than science. But Koch has devoted the last three decades to studying the neurological basis of consciousness. His work at the Allen Institute now puts him at the forefront of the BRAIN Initiative, the massive new effort to understand how brains work, which will begin next year.

Koch’s insights have been detailed in dozens of scientific articles and a series of books, including last year’s Consciousness: Confessions of a Romantic Reductionist. WIRED talked to Koch about his understanding of this age-old question.

Healthy Balance - Baby Massage

Healthy Balance would like to invite babies aged between newborn and one year old (non crawling) and their Mum or Dad to come along for a five session baby massage course.
Discover the joys and benefits of baby massage and celebrate this wonderful stage together as you and your little one give each other the focus and attention that you both deserve. The course consists of five, one hours sessions, which take place over 5 weeks. Each week will focus on a different part of the body until full body massage is learnt.

The classes are suitable from birth, however, a baby is likely to be more receptive to massage at a few weeks old when it has become more accustomed to being touched. Classes are recommended to take place before crawling starts, however the benefits of baby massage can be used on children many years older.

You will be given handouts of the techniques learnt, to assist with practice at home. Towels and massage oil are provided. Please bring Baby, a baby blanket, nappies and wipes.

There will also be a chance to discuss various post natal issues over refreshments and to meet other parents and their young babies.

Yet Another Disease That Responds Better to Marijuana Than Prescription Drugs

http://www.alternet.org

For the estimated five million Americans suffering from Fibromyalgia (FM), a chronic pain condition of unknown etiology, pain, fatigue, and depression are often a way of life. Though the US Food and Drug Administration has approved a small number of drugs to treat symptoms of FM, many patients report that these prescription pills provide little relief. By contrast, more and more patients with FM are finding effective relief from medical cannabis.

So say the results of a recent online survey of over 1,300 subjects conducted by The National Pain Foundation and NationalPainReport.com. Among those surveyed, 379 subjects said that they had used cannabis therapeutically. Sixty-two percent of them rated the substance to be “very effective” in the treatment of their condition. Only five percent of said that cannabis did “not work at all.”

“Extreme” Levels of Roundup Detected in Food—Are You Eating This Toxic Contaminant?

'In 2009, a French court found Monsanto guilty of lying; falsely advertising its Roundup herbicide as "biodegradable," "environmentally friendly" and claiming it "left the soil clean."
We're now starting to understand just how false such statements are. For example, last summer, a groundbreaking study revealed a previously unknown mechanism of harm from glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup.

The research showed that glyphosate residues, found in most processed foods in the Western diet courtesy of GE sugar beets, corn, and soy, "enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease."'

How Walmart's New Mass-Produced Organics Line Could Threaten Organic Farming
http://www.alternet.org/food/how-walmarts-new-mass-produced-organics-line-could-threaten-organic-farming

Mark Smallwood remembers gardening with his grandmother in Ohio when he was a kid. They used organic farming techniques because, to his grandma, that was just how gardening was done.

“I don’t think [my grandma] could pronounce the word, ‘chemical,’” he said in an email. “Everything we did was organic.”

Today Smallwood is the executive director of the Rodale Institute, which works to create new sustainable and organic food production models for the world to follow. Smallwood has watched organic farming evolve and grow over the years, mainly via dedicated small-time farmers in pockets across the country. When Walmart announced plans to open a new line of super-cheap organic foods, Smallwood's reaction was mixed. Like many Smallwood recognized the potential for Walmart--the nation's biggest grocer-- to expand the organic foods model. But, while some food justice advocates have welcomed the move as it promises to make organic foods available to the masses, Smallwood says there is a good reason organics are priced the way they are. He fears lowering the price of organic foods would fail to reflect their true production costs, and Walmart organics could ultimately threaten the greater organic farming world.

After a 20 year career as a basketball coach in Ohio, Smallwood took over an organic farm in Kent, Connecticut.

“I drove oxen instead of using a tractor,” he said. “In my last year there, we used about 43 gallons of gas for the entire year.”

At the time, this made Smallwood part of a small sector of farmers—many of them ‘hippies’—who refused to use what they recognized to be harmful chemicals on their crops.

When he left the farm, Smallwood worked in a small organic market called MOM’s (My Organic Market). Then, Whole Foods recruited him to help 40 stores divert their waste from the landfill, and source food locally—a move that was unprecedented at the time.

Smallwood has seen huge expansions in the organic food production, particularly in the last decade. What started as a niche trend is now a booming billion dollar industry, held together primarily by a network of small farms that provide food to local community sources.

“Ten years ago, the organic industry was an $11.7 billion industry,” he said. “At the end of 2012 it was up to $31.5 billion. Every year organic sees double digit growth. The growth has been amazing and when we talk with policy makers in D.C. now, for instance, it’s no longer the image of a small organic farmer with four acres and a hog. This is mainstream now—this is an industry worth over $31.5 billion.”

There's a Right Way and a Wrong Way to Do Organic Farming

When you think about it, the term ‘organic farming’ is a misnomer. Really, we should be saying “chemical farming” to describe farming practices that uses pesticides and other toxic concoctions, and just plain “farming” to describe organic practices, sans chemicals. Instead, chemicals are the norm in the agriculture world—so much so that farming without them is the weird, “alternative,” method with labeling requirements to boot.

Prior to the 1920s, “organic” was the only agriculture because chemical pesticides and soil amendments had yet to be invented. After World War II, researchers figured out that chemicals designed for use as nerve gas during the war could also kill insects. This changed the game. Farmers rushed to get ahold of the new miracle sprays that promised a pest-free crop, year round. Giant commercial farms, today's Big Ag factory farms developed around the use of pesticides—which they still rely on today.

From Pay it Forward
Happened to come across this wonderful article of
“Paying it Forward” at its best. We seem to always focus on the negative of any situation, this wonderful man decided to take his pain and turn it into a positive act of kindness, good lesson for us all!

TORONTO - When Lee Ballantyne scrawled a few words on a restaurant napkin, he was doing little more than paying tribute to his high school sweetheart while trying to salve his own grief at her loss.
But Ballantyne's son Jason said his father's decision to honour a new generation of lovers has resonated all over the world, taking him from anonymous Good Samaritan to global inspiration.
Romantics and cynics alike have helped spread the tale of a grieving widower who felt compelled to buy dinner for an unknown young couple who reminded him of happy days with his late wife, who had died just a week before after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Jason Ballantyne said the international reaction to the story has been overwhelming in one sense, but not surprising in another. The story of his parents' marriage, he said, speaks to profound emotions that are nearly universal.
"It cuts across cultures because it's a story about two people who shared a very strong bond and a man dealing with that loss reaches out to somebody in the time of his grief," Ballantyne said in a telephone interview from Barrie, Ont.
"That's the type of person my dad is."
Lee Ballantyne, former editor of the Belleville Intelligencer and current columnist for the Barrie Advance, went out to dinner on Jan. 7, barely a week after his wife Carol's death.
The melancholy meal became a more pleasant experience for Ballantyne as he watched a young couple enjoying dinner together across the room from where he sat.
The happy pair prompted him to reach out in a way that even he had not planned.
In what he described as a spontaneous gesture, Ballantyne seized a napkin and dashed off a quick note to the unknown pair:

"You don't know me but my beautiful wife of 43 years died last week. Tonight I dined alone for the first time. You remind me of us many years ago. Please allow me to buy your dinner. Enjoy! It will put a smile on Carol's face and make me happy . . . for now. Happy New Year! Lee B. Pay it forward."

A waiter at the restaurant photographed the note and posted it online. Within hours, Ballantyne's words and generosity were making an impact around the world.
In a column written about the reaction, Ballantyne said his note was reposted to various social networks and had garnered hundreds of thousands of views by the end of the week.
Traditional media soon followed suit, with the U.K.'s Daily Mail writing a story and posting pictures of the Ballantynes and their children. News outlets in countries as far afield as Australia, Germany and Croatia also ran articles.
What the note did not capture, Jason Ballantyne said, was the long-standing bond between his parents.
Lee and Carol Ballantyne met when they were still teenagers in the northern Ontario mining town of Kirkland Lake, he said. They came together at a community dance after Lee had been rejected by Carol's best friend.
"(Mom) went home that night, and her sisters have confirmed this, that she said, 'I just danced with the man I'm going to marry,'" Jason Ballantyne said.
The relationship, which Jason Ballantyne said went through typical ups and downs, grew closer in the past five years as Carol struggled with lupus, cancer and other medical conditions that left her unable to eat solid food for nearly two years.
Her death has left a void for his father, Jason said, adding the gesture in the restaurant was motivated by a profound sense of identity with the couple across the way.
"He said it hurts not having Mom there with him," Jason said. "That was why it was so powerful at that meal because it hit him that, 'I'm never going to have dinner with my wife again.'"

Subject: EU Dictates GMO Acceptance = Horrible set-back ruling of psychopathic insantity

Cdsapi’s Added Comment: In a free marketplace, in the land of Supply and Demand, the consumer can buy or not buy. Apparently we now live in a dictatorship in which a Corporation and its products are totally protected, even when NO CONSUMERS want the products. The Corporations can simply “stuff it down our throats”, with impunity,, even if it kills us. (Or is depopulation a big part of this agenda?)
In the USA, the “Monsanto Protection Bill” declared that even when GMOs pose serious harm to the public, the courts cannot interfere with the activities and expansion of Monsanto, no matter how hazardous these products can be shown to be. So the health of the public and the health of the environment be damned. Monsanto, say these arbitrary, unscientific, criminal rulings – has the right to OWN and CONTROL foods, and the public’s wishes Not To Buy, apparently no longer enters into the equation.
No one in Europe wants any part of GMOs, so the EU simply makes an Alice in Wonderland ruling “IT IS BECAUSE I SAY IT IS”. The EU has erased the voice of the democratically elected national governments and robs them of their sovereignty. Gone is any concept of “democracy” other than a façade. When the EU decrees that countries cannot protect the health of their population and their environment if that protection interferes with the vested interests of The Corporations, it is literally a “Dictatorship”. WE must take back our sovereignty and make the voice of the people the deciding factor in legislations and rulings.
Apparently 2 million people worldwide Marching Against Monsanto didn’t seem to deliver a message to these bozos.
Science by Decree and Declaration is not science.
Legislation against the will of the population is not Democracy.
Insanity reigns and like an infectious disease, it is proliferating.
This is a WAR Of Self-Defense that the people of the world MUST WIN – no matter how difficult and how long it takes. Our survival is literally at stake.
NOTE: The Elites of the world do not eat GMOs – They make special provisions to get ORGANIC FOOD. And Monsanto employees and scientists also will not eat GMOs - wonder WHY? Just maybe they know the truth about this GE biotech-science.

EU countries banned from being GM-free
by SEAN POULTER, Daily Mail
Nations and regions which want to stay free of genetically-modified crops will be banned from doing so under a devastating ruling by EU scientists.
The decision, the first from the new European Food Safety Authority, means governments will be unable to stop the controversial plants being grown on their soil - effectively opening the floodgates.
It is a disastrous blow to those British consumers, farmers, politicians and green campaigners who are fearful about the safety of so-called Frankenstein foods.
The administrations in Scotland and Wales and many English local authorities - particularly in the South West - oppose GM crops.
Last night, Greenpeace warned Britain is being dragged into a vast and unpredictable experiment. Once commercial planting of GM crops is allowed, their pollen will spread and contaminate the entire countryside.
Former environment minister Michael Meacher has warned of gaping holes in our knowledge about the effect of GM on human health and the countryside. He has raised the possibility of damage to the immune system, sexual development and the stomach lining. There are also concerns about new allergies. What happened to choice?'
Separately, there are worries that GM pollen will taint conventional and organic farms. And research has pointed to the creation of superweeds.
Mr Meacher has called on the Government to postpone or ban commercial growing of GM crops here.
However, an EFSA scientific panel has now decided these are not sufficient reasons for any EU nation or region to choose GM-free status.
The ruling is on an application by Upper Austria to be declared a GM-free zone for all existing and planned GM crops or animals. The rejection of the application - to be officially published tomorrow - sets a precedent across Europe.
In effect, it means a farmer or biotech company will be allowed to grow GM crops virtually anywhere in the EU, regardless of public fears or political opposition.
Yesterday, Greenpeace called into question the independence of EFSA and its GM science panel. The chief executive is British civil servant Geoffrey Podger, who was previously in charge of the pro- GM Food Standards Agency here. The British government, which from Tony Blair down is seen as supporting GM, was consulted on who should represent this country on the EU's GM panel.
Two of those chosen are GM enthusiasts - Professor Mike Gasson, of the Institute of Food Research in Norfolk and Professor Jeremy Sweet, of the National Institute of Agricultural-Botany, Cambridge. Greenpeace GM campaigner Nathan Argent said: 'Once again. Tony Blair's science cronies have shown how determined they are to force this unwanted technology down our throats.
'Our countryside is being forced to take part in an unwanted and unpredictable environmental experiment. Whatever happened to choice?' But Professor Sweet said those who raise social or moral objections to GM are 'just muddying the waters'.
He rejected the health warnings raised by Mr Meacher and others, saying: 'There has to be an acceptance of the integrity of the science.
An EU moratorium on new GM crops was lifted last week under pressure from the U.S. Biotech firms, such as Monsanto, are pressing ahead with applications to grow GM oilseed rape, maize, beet, potatoes and other crops.
The first could go into commercial cultivation in Britain and across Europe as early as next spring.
